Twin Cities Auto Show: 2020 Ford Display

    Supercharged, or Supercharger?

Ford had a cool display this year with a lot of variety. They brought out the new 2020 Mustang GT500 that we saw released in Detroit in 2019. They also brought out the already infamous 2021 Mustang Mach-E which, so far as I can tell, is an electric SUV vaguely reminiscent of late Mustangs. I’m not sure I understand the point of this quite yet, but it still has time to grow on me. Currently, verdict is still out.

The 2020 Ford Mustang GT500 is neat. It has a lot of cool carbon fiber bits including the wheels. It also includes a dual clutch transmission just like the new 2020 C8 Corvette. This decision caused quite a lot of backlash in the automotive community (the trolls on social media, anyway).

The GT500 is also in an interesting space because of the C8 Corvette price of under $60K. A GT500 will start with an MSRP is $72,900, but dealers are already marking them up to well over double that. It makes 760 horsepower with a supercharged 5.2l V8, which is significantly more than the C8 Corvette’s 490 horses. However, the first C8 Corvette is just a base model, so not a totally fair comparison…yet. Hopefully we see some of these GT500s hit the road soon, and maybe one will even grace our Cars and Coffee event!
