Porsche has easily the most confusing lineup of car naming in the history of naming things. There’s the Boxster, Carrera, 911, Cayman, 991, 997, 968, 989, 718, Turbo, 4S, Turbo S, Targa, and that’s just scratching the surface. Some of those models and numbers even coincide together such as Carreras are 911s and Targas can be GTSs. All I know is that if you see GT3 on the trunk of a Porsche, it must be special.

Here are the details I gathered mostly from Wikipedia. This is a Porsche 911 GT3 and specifically a 997.1 GT3 sold from 2006 – 2008. A total of 917 of these were sold in the U.S. In 2009, Porsche released a 997.2 GT3 with some upgraded engine, suspension, and aesthetic components. 65 of those made it to the U.S. In short, this is a more track-ready version of a typical Porsche 911.
