This past summer, I was fortunate to visit Europe for two-and-a-half weeks on my Honeymoon. I got to see the sights, meet the people, eat the food, and, most importantly, shoot the cars! The trip was a real eye opener and I learned a lot about how transportation works in other parts of the world.
We started in the northern U.K. and ended the trip in the middle of Italy. Over this two-part series I’m going to post great photos and talk about the crazy cultural, and automotive, differences between them and us. Enjoy!
Edinburgh, Scotland
This was the first stop on our four country journey. Aside from everyone sounding like a video game when they talked, it also felt the most like home. Edinburgh is basically split in to two different towns: the touristy stuff in the south, and a well developed, small city in the north.
In the tourist area it was mostly small economy cars and public transportation, but had great hiking, gorgeous structures, and a freakin’ castle in the middle of town! As soon as you started heading north, you really got to start seeing some great restaurants, big houses, and unique cars.
And yes, Scotland is pretty much cloudy every day.
London, England
Holy cow, this place was the jackpot. People there drove brand new S-Classes like we drive Chevy Malibus; they were everywhere! We were in the central area near the river and we could not go a block without seeing a BMW M-seriies, Mercedes AMG, Aston Martin, or a Porsche. I would have to say the hardest part was deciding what was “good enough” to take a picture of.
The city and the people were also exceptionally clean and their public transport was top notch. I mean no one was wearing sweatpants. This led me to believe that there is no reason to own a car in London unless you want to show everyone how much money you have, which, thankfully, was a plenty of chaps! That’s what they say in London, right?
It is also not uncommon to see entire dealerships inside of a small office. London doesn’t have the room for gigantic car lots like America so dealers like Ferrari, McLaren, Audi, and BMW keep a few cars on-hand inside a small show room. It brings a whole new definition to window shopping!
Edinburgh and London were the first 8 days of our trip but there are still tons more cars to come. Below are all of the photos of cars from these two countries. Enjoy!
