Please call me out if I’m wrong!
Who doesn’t love Archer, the foul mouthed, alcoholic, suave secret agent in the self titled show on FX? For a car lover, the most fun part of the show is spotting all of the great cars that they drive. I mean, what would a secret agent be without rare cars?
I’ve found that you have to be quick while watching because they don’t show the cars for too long and they rarely tell you what they are. So I thought it’d be fun to document all the ones I noticed and post them here. I’ll do the posts season by season and here are all the ones of note that I found in season 1.
Dodge Challenger (1970 – 1974)
We gotta start it off with Archer’s signature ride in season 1, the Dodge Challenger. I’ve heard that it’s a 1970 440 6 Pack but they never mention it in this season as far as I know. It also gets shot, stolen, and destroyed at different points in the season!
Chevrolet Bel Air (1955 – 1956)
When Archer has to go down to Florida for an episode, they show a quick glimpse of this Chevrolet Bel Air. I’m not certain if it’s a 1955 or 1956 because the tail lights don’t match up perfectly to either one but the rest is pretty dang close. I’m not expert at 50s cars but I do know it’s not a 1957 because everyone knows what that one looks like!
MG MGB Roadster (1962 – 1980)
In that same Florida episode, Archer’s acquaintances and Woodhouse pull up in this car. This is all they show of it but using my context clues and knowing it’s sometime during the 70s, I’m almost certain they are in an MG MGB Roadster.
Fiat 500 (1957 – 1975)
If you keep an eye out, the creators of Archer slip in a Fiat 500 in almost every episode that contains cars. Since the classic 500 was largely unchanged over it’s almost 20 year run, who knows the specific model of this one. It does have the cool convertible soft top though!
Aston Martin V8 Vantage (1977 – 1989)
In one of the first episodes, Lana chases down Archer’s Challenger in this Aston Martin V8 Vantage. I’m not exactly sure what year this one is but it is 100% a nod to James Bond’s V8 Vantage Volante in the 1987 movie “The Living Daylights”. I also love that clearly Lana has the best taste in cars thus far. And it’s purple!
Ferrari 250 GTO (1962 – 1964)
It doesn’t take a genius to recognize one of Ferrari’s most famous cars of all time: the 250 GTO. This car is one of the most collectible Ferraris of all time with the most recent one auctioning for $38,000,000 in 2013. Sadly, this one gets destroyed because Lana is pissed at Archer and crashes it on purpose. Luckily it’s a cartoon!
